The World of Skincare & Honey with Fiona Moffat
Antibacterial, antioxidant moisturising, purifying and age-defying. What do all these words have in common?
They’re just SOME of the many beneficial properties of honey!
We delve into the wonderful world of bees with backyard beekeeper and founder of Rosebery Honey, Fiona Moffat.
Fiona not only produces the most amazing honey in her backyard, but she’s also become the woman called upon when people find unwanted working hives on their properties. Yes - she swoops in and saves the bees AND their hives!
She’s the ultimate bee advocate!
As someone who’s allergic to bees (and therefore scared of them!), I’ve often wondered about the important part they play in our eco-system. Why are they so important to the environment?
In the video below, I share some DIY skincare recipes using raw honey and some other items you might just have in your pantry and fridge and we also chat more about another amazing substance that bees produce that is being studied as a treatment for skin cancer and cancer prevention!
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Passing my boat license test. It was difficult and certainly didn't come naturally to me. I studied and studied and studied!
What is the greatest life lesson you have learnt?
There is a lot more to life than working. I enjoy working and I love the food industry but I am attracted to roles that require 100% of my time and have recently tried to slow down, have control and it suits me just fine and allows me to pursue other interests like keeping bees!
What is the best skincare advice you've ever been given?
Splurge on quality silk pillowcases (we recommend these ones from My Style Box!), they can be a little pricey, but worth every penny! Don't start wearing deodorant or antiperspirant with aluminium. Apple Cider Vinegar works well and is much kinder to your skin (the fish and chip shop smell fades after a few minutes)!.
What is the one skincare product you can't live without?
Cleanser. I can't start the day without washing my face. It makes me feel awake and ready and it's comforting knowing I've washed off all the witches brew that has come out of my pores whilst I was asleep!
What does your morning skincare routine look like?
I double cleanse, wipe over a toner, apply serum, eye cream, neck cream,. face moisturiser, SPF, then I start with a light make up application. I finish with the Pink Hibiscus Rose Quartz Facial Spritz. I generally work from home in air-conditioning and I find myself spritzing throughout the day if my skin feels a little tight. I love, love, love the rose scent and am a rose lover from way back!
What does your evening skincare routine look like?
It's basic. I double cleanse, then apply Tretinoin 0.05% heavily across my forehead, nose and cheeks, neck cream and an anti-ageing eye cream.
If we were to take a sneak peek into your handbag right now, what beauty products would we find?
By Terry Baume de Rose, By Terry Hyalauronic Hydra Powder, Pink Hibiscus Hand & Surface Sanitising Spritz, Westman Atelier Baby Blush Stick and Pink Hibiscus Rose Quartz Facial Spritz.
What piece of advice would you give your younger self?
Be kind to yourself. You may not like you right now, but other people do.
