Candle Making & Tips with Michaela Body
Michaela Body started making candles during our first Covid lockdown to keep her occupied when the cruise industry, that she worked in at the time, was sadly paused.
As I always say though, the silver lining will always appear (even if you have to squint really hard sometimes to see it!) and what started as a hobby, has transformed into a blossoming business!
Michaela hand-pours her Est. 1994 Candles down the road from Pink Hibiscus HQ in north-western Sydney and balances this with full-time work as well!
In the episode of Pink Hibiscus LIVE below, we learned more about how she makes her divine candles, the work that went into ensuring the "throw" was perfect (yes we also learn some candle terminology along the way too!), what her inspiration is when selecting fragrances and how to properly take care of your candles.
You even get a sneak peek into our exciting upcoming collaboration!
What would you consider your greatest achievement?
Stepping into the unknown of becoming a business owner and somehow managing to get it together whilst still working full time! Creating a product that so many love and enjoy is something I am quite proud of!
What is the greatest life lesson you've learnt so far?
You can't give your all to others if your cup isn't full! Look after yourself first and then assist others (I feel like a flight attendant during a safety speech)!
What piece of advice would you give your younger self?
Be kinder to yourself and don't let anyone tell you your dreams are not possible. Only you know your full potential.
What is the best beauty advice you've ever been given?
Hydration, hydration, hydrations - drink lots of water!
What is the one skincare product you can't live without?
A good clay or mud mask. I feel this clears my skin of all the nasties from the past week and I think it looks much better the next day!
What is your favourite Pink Hibiscus product and why?
The Body Smoother! It exfoliates, smells amazing and most importantly leaves my skin super soft and not dry at all!
What does your morning skincare ritual look like?
I'm basic, a cleanse with warm water and face washer, hyaluronic acid serum and a moisturiser.
What does your evening skincare ritual look like?
A good cleanse with a foaming face wash and exfoliant two times a week, hyaluronic acid serum and moisturiser.
If we were to take a sneak peek into your handbag right now, what beauty products would we find?
I'm terrible with handbags, but literally my hand sanitiser and lip balm!
